In the Journal of the Royal Australian Historical Society, an abstract on a study of two films about WWI British Forces in the Middle East

While an observer with 1 Squadron in the Middle East during WWI, he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross; after the war he was allowed to qualify as a pilot (the period during which this photograph was taken).
